For fans of Febuary, Scarcity, Converge, old school screamo, and disturbingly vivid revenge fantasies, Quantas Vezes Ao Sol Até Eu Morrer by Prado uses a typically hopeless musical form to encourage us to stand up for ourselves, bringing all the same apocalypticism we expect from the far fringes of skramz while retaining hope in our collective will. Most screamo has this inexplicable component of penetrating light, with ascending chord progressions seemingly leading us out of the depths of despair before ruthlessly slamming us back down to earth. Here, however, these hints at positivity become the very hope which propels the entire narrative, offsetting the punishingly heavy darkness of the surroundings with a promise of long-term material reward for our collective struggle. The planet still burns here, but with people willing to stand up to the flames and those who encourage them, our hope never dies out until there’s none of us left to fight.
