Sightings by Jarboe

For fans of Swans, Current 93, Nico, the wonderful world of drone music, and all the songbirds we’ll hear but never see, Sightings by Jarboe celebrates the unseen dimensions of nature, immersing us in the unknown using a deeply textured ambient sound. Lush organs and strings draw immediate connections to deep folk traditions, forming the central drone from which each additional layer furthers our exploration. Samples of the human voice, of nature, and of other instruments disorient us just as we feel steady in our surroundings, coupling with the incessant entry and exit of auxiliary instrumentation like horns and drums to keep the details of this landscape in constant motion. From within the crevices of these details, lead vocals occasionally sneak into the edge of our consciousness, appearing in anguished growls, eerie speech, or desperate screams before fading once again into an indifferent background. For all we think we understand nature, something lives out there past our visible horizon, something watching us, waiting for just the right moment to intervene in ways we may never expect.
