Safe as Houses by Pij

Safe as Houses by Pij

For fans of Daniel Johnston, Still House Plants, Abigail Snail, windmill-adjacent singer-songwriter, and those quiet mornings we sometimes forget to cherish, Safe as Houses by Pij invites us into the songwriters’ personal space with open arms, creating a daringly intimate environment through musical improvisation and minimal composition. Through the use of field recordings, room microphones, and repeated phrases, Pij crafts a bedroom record in the truest sense of the word, in that we couldn’t possibly imagine ourselves being anywhere but a cozy personal space as we listen along. The first rays of sunlight tug at our eyes as the birds start their song outside, and as ourselves and a dear friend groggily reach for a guitar we gradually fall into a romantic celebration of these peaceful moments spent together. In the warped world of our memory, this specific morning will blur into a liminal space between this or that huge traumatic event, but the more we learn to hold onto these instants and let their quietness naturally sing, the more we hold our flowers long before we’re dead.
