Rad Berms by Abigail Snail
For fans of Still House Plants, Caroline, Morgan Garrett, free jazz, and watching the events of your life from an A Clockwork Orange style contraption, Rad Berms by Abigail Snail invites us to cozy up with the absurd using their unique style of post rock which breathes organically and crescendos relatably. Whereas in conventional rock music all instruments fall in line behind a core rhythm, Abigail Snail lets all rhythms fall in line behind the emotions at the core of the songs, allowing a stunning ebb and flow as these musicians overcome standard meter, or any meter for that matter, entirely. In the moments when the band mostly locks in behind a beat in the form of a krautrock motorik structure, they instead dial up their other method of flowing transition: a smooth but dramatic change in volume, intensity, and strain. In both cases, we find music which harmonizes with our own emotional processes, recognizing the whims of the subconscious as the origin of all action irrespective of the rhythms, structures, and conventions of the outside.
