Fate Again by Strumbrush

For fans of Duster, Wiring, Unwound, indie folk, and the impenetrable armor of dissociation, Fate Again by Strumbrush unite post hardcore sounds, folk aesthetics, and indie rock songwriting to frantically resist the intrusion of reality onto our tranquil dreams. Warm, suspended riffs lead into the lush distortion of contemporary indie to place us in a distinctive alternate universe only slightly offset from our own, one whose sounds feel familiar but with a tinge of absurdity which keeps us suspicious of our surroundings. Lyrics abstractly set up a conflict between states of escapist dream and ruthless reality, revealing that tinge of funhouse darkness in the instrumentals as a front line between these two polar opposite states. The more we dive into this state of intentional dissociation, the more hectic and heavy these intrusions become, eventually giving the majority of the composition over to dissonance whose warmth and familiarity increasingly fail to keep us from sitting on edge. Given enough time, the dream turns to nightmare, asking us whether we’re really better off continuing to escape or finally waking up.
