For fans of LCD Soundsystem, TV on the Radio, fusion era Miles Davis, dance punk, and our old dance roundup videos, Oh! by P.E. waves a heartfelt yet upbeat goodbye through a party record with surprises at every turn. Signing off on the band’s three-album career, an air of happenstance pervades everything on this record, a serendipitous smattering of everything left on the table as the band triumphantly exits the scene. From new wave to vaporwave, from bebop solos to glitchy samples, from impossibly fast electronic drums to relaxed and inviting vocals, we get a snapshot of a collective creative energy, one which maintains continuity throughout via a shared aesthetic sensibility but never fears adventuring into new territory. Despite this record marking the end for P.E., the band keeps sounds bittersweet at worst and outright bubbly the rest of the time, a lesson on graceful and gracious exit which we would all do well to learn from.
