For fans of YHWH Nailgun, The Cure, Coil, tragically burnt out post rock, and post punk as something genuinely aesthetically transgressive, No Promotion by Whimm takes us to the limits of psychological alienation, immersing us in liminal lostness as we vent our frustration out into an increasingly unforgiving abyss. From an industrial-tinged, deeply dreamy post punk foundation, presenting unconventional song structures and intense vocal processing to begin that process of deepening alienation, we slowly progress into the depths of abstract, droning psychedelia. As the drum machines, driving bass, and chirping guitars fall away, we’re left with nothing but the deepest essences of the post punk aesthetic, eternally searching for increasingly minimal methods of eliciting those same feelings of detached nihilism. However, at the end of this process, we find something unexpected, an aesthetic warmth glowing beneath those layers of cold distance, a promise of some guiding direction even at the furthest point of aimless wandering.
