For fans of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Old Saw, Current 93, the contemporary British folk-influenced experimental scene, and the porous boundary between romantic and spiritual yearning, I Am Yours by Spirited Followers combines folk traditions from around the world to call out in one united voice to one great beyond, bringing us all together under the desires inherent to our inner spark of consciousness. A diverse set of instruments combine in these gradual, dramatic crescendos, most of which start at a concrete spiritual statement delivered in the form of straightforward lyrics but end at a point entirely beyond conventional language. Each of these statements offers multiple readings, inviting us to offer up our own longings into this universalist prayer for divine company in this cold, lonesome world. All the world’s instruments and all humanity’s faith traditions synchronize on one eternal spiritual pulse, our desires increasingly frantic as spiritually bankrupt technologies seek to discard us on the path towards something utterly horrifying.
