Cursebreaker by Nyssa

Cursebreaker by Nyssa

For fans of Kate Bush, Big Blood, The Last Dinner Party, late 90s Lilith-Fair-adjacent singer songwriter, and the process of growing up and still feeling that urge to get out of this town and leave everything behind, Cursebreaker by Nyssa examines all the poor behaviors rewarded by a sadistic society through a theatrical take on alternative rock. Relatable lyrics invite us to witness a parade of broken love interests who make healthy relationships nearly impossible, constantly throwing themselves into codependency and routinely putting the speaker into uncomfortable situations. Vibrant, transparent vocals backed by maximalist production and intense instrumentals immerse us in the rage associated with a permanent state of disappointment, with minute swing jazz and post punk flourishes highlighting the sheer absurdity of such consistent failure. However, despite this consistency, we still hold persistent hope in our hearts, a treat with Nyssa shares and openly encourages as the record takes a genuinely romantic turn, the stylized drama revealing itself as fully genuine passion which keeps us moving as we search for that perfect state of harmony.
