For fans of Maruja, Hesse Kassel, Shearling, classic prog rock, and the symphony as something with amplifiers and drum kits, Come In, Thank You by Cat Soup takes today’s beloved jazzy post rock sounds into an unmistakably psychedelic direction, using their fully instrumental lineup to explore diverse, extended song structures reminiscent of altered states of mind. Foundations in the more atmospheric sides of jazz set the scene, with saxophones invoking classic noir aesthetics as spidery guitar riffs crawl over the horizon. From here, noise rock inspirations texturize this atmosphere, bringing that sort of organic pulse to escalate this aesthetic darkness into outright tension. Finally, we enter an enormous sonically open space, distorted guitars and saxophones working in tandem to build these anthems that lift us into a state of psychedelic euphoria, only to quickly restart the cycle at a point of murky wandering.
