For fans of Jockstrap, Andy Stott, Eva808, the Oneohtrix Point Never extended universe, and memory as a permanently unstable fluid, Алеа by Sofia Ivanova taps into the deepest recesses of our minds with a deeply deconstructed club sound, connecting rare moments of rhythm with vast tracts of atmosphere. Field recordings represent the starting point of these deep dives into the subconscious, representing the external stimuli which spurs us to frantically rifle through our memories. Spacey, ethereal synths and gradual, elegant vocals immerse us in an ocean of memory, with tidal shifts pushing and pulling us through vaguely connected images as we search for relevant information to meet that external stimulus. Unlike when we search a physical filing cabinet, we never return with one succinct answer; we instead obtain temporary mental flow states, a condition which helps align our actions with our innermost intentions and give us some of the most productive, decisive moments of our lives, here represented by the subtle pulse of a distant dance rhythm.
