For fans of Shearling, Black Midi, Cisnienie, heavy, cyclical post rock, and dance as a method of catharsis, Wij Zinken by Grote Geelstaart shifts post punk machinery into overdrive using dynamic song structures and an organic emotional pulse, providing us the purest possible remedy for our pent-up negativity. A heavy rhythmic core keeps this record danceable even at its mathiest, most disorienting moments, providing an anchoring point for jagged guitar riffs, emotive saxophone flourishes, and abrasive snippets of feedback. These additions will suddenly take over the composition throughout the record, shifting it into a dynamic peak which at first feels so intense as to not allow any further crescendo. However, by adding a natural pulse to these intense moments, the noise ebbing and flowing like a breath or a heartbeat, Grote Geelstaart makes this intensity build indefinitely, elevating our frantic movements to the scale of an exorcism as we reach the highest possible state of release.
