So Inspired, So Done In by Dog Chocolate
For fans of McClusky, Snooper, Hüsker Dü, the new wave of bouncy, off-kilter post punk, and every interaction with your local hr department, So Inspired, So Done In by Dog Chocolate boils over with classic punk resentment towards our toxic work culture and the conditions which got us here. A garage rock atmosphere introduces us to Dog Chocolate’s diy ethos, as chaotic, deeply distorted guitars pair with shouted vocals to lend an air of absolute, unobstructed authenticity to the album’s messaging. Counterpoint from an acrobatic bass and dissonance from suspended chords fill out this otherwise minimal sound, lending a hardcore intensity which extends above and beyond many records under the post punk umbrella. Fundamentally, this album stews in that same snarky malaise which initially got punk off the ground, rejecting the powers that be and all their meager attempts to gain our sympathy. Unlike those earlier bands, however, Dog Chocolate takes a much more pointed approach, attacking not just individual people but the entire ideology and machinery of capitalist imperialism, breathing new life into this familiar fundamental angst.
