Sidera by Miserere Luminis
For fans of Deafheaven, Thantifaxath, Neurosis, neoclassical, expansive post rock, and the radical decision to look out at the world as is and choose to live, Sidera by Miserere Luminis takes seriously the high drama of our current moment by meeting our surroundings with an equally intense symphony of black metal. Enormous walls of distorted guitars close in, harmonizing with real-world impending catastrophe to reinforce our feelings of claustrophobic panic, of the inevitability of Armageddon as the ashes of far-off fires rain down on our heads. However, as chord progressions resolve and orchestral strings enter the arrangement, the entire composition points upwards, towards affirmation in lieu of escape. The sheer scale of this album reminds us of our imprisonment in this timeline, strapped to this rocket and forced to endure the oncoming blast. However, for now at least, we relish in our ability to live, to cheat this mechanism which actively seeks our destruction one day at a time.
