SCREAMERS by Why Patterns
If the the 21st century initially unfolded like the emotional boiling of billions of frogs, covid and the ensuing global economic and military violence that followed straight up set the water on fire, inducing a collective psychosis with no simple resolution. Why Patterns gives voice to this suicidal zeitgeist on their new album SCREAMERS, a all-out sludgey noise punk assault that eviscerates the entire self aside from the foremost id. Improvised vocals radiate omnidirectional vitriol, while continuously grooving riffs dominate a sonic landscape of expertly produced, monumentally giant instrumental sounds. While we’re left with our heads spinning, wondering whether unsheathed rage subverts the system or provides further fuel for its eternal flame, we’re increasingly left with no choice but to join in the wailing and gnashing of teeth. As popular music makes its anticipated pivot towards bubblegum escapism during this time of crisis, the underground rises to meet the justified anger bubbling below the surface, encapsulating the only sane reaction to a world increasingly engaged with the most destructive version of a false reality.
