Regressions by Numb.er

It can be extremely isolating to feel misunderstood by those around you, and this sense of detachment and anxiety is a prominent theme explored in Regressions by Numb.er. Originally written while the artist was living alone in a foreign city and revamped following the onset of the pandemic, this dark wave post punk release exemplifies melancholy both instrumentally and lyrically. The project takes inspiration from synthpop and darkwave, deeply personal lyrics adorned with buzzing synths and washed-out guitars. With energizing pacing, Regressions steadily gains momentum as it goes before tapering out into introspective spacey post-gaze. It’s never pleasant to feel isolated and disconnected, but listening to projects like this can help create a comforting sense of connection. - Carrie
