Палево by Протоприкус
For fans of Los Thuthanaka, Asleep Country, Martinez/Roach, no wave, and an abandoned factory building that kicked all the artists out but still stays vacant, Палево by Протоприкус combines sound collage, industrial aesthetics, and dissonant rock to immerse us in a dead future. That viscerally metallic industrial edge appears in a dulled, distant state throughout this record, emerging partially from the shadows to haunt the composition as pure, heavy dissonance carries on below. Those days of full employment through manufacturing have long since passed, and under the boot of finance even the tiny bit of soul which remained under industrial production gets snuffed out entirely. However, skeletons remain in our midst, demonstrated here by abrasive synths and slow, imposing riffs, suggesting the empty frame of a factory that guards the horizon but never becomes a core facet of daily life. As memories of the assembly lines fade and we dive headfirst into a future of pure asset management, decay replaces all former processes of useful material production.
