Pale Bloom by Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys
For fans of Nine Inch Nails, Björk, Massive Attack, indie sleaze and its revival, and having a conversation with your childhood self, Pale Bloom by Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys mourns lost potential with a dark art pop funeral. A light industrial touch serves as the aesthetic foundation for each track, adding a slight harshness to the minimal electronic percussion and post punk guitar leads which immerse us in this depressive state. Most prominently, soft, smooth vocals tell a story of a life given over to oppressive expectations and deteriorating circumstances, sending the speaker searching for answers in archetypes, history, and trauma. There’s no gentle way to tell this inner child what the future holds, but through gently aligning all parts of the self with reality, our speaker adjusts to the dark state of the current day. If we give ourselves a chance, we too can find beauty in this realism, finding a new future which offers a light at the end of the tunnel.
