Straightforward punk sounds, at times digging into bluesier riffs from even earlier eras of rock and roll, fuel this record’s key push towards unironic critique, the lyrics leaning into that classic misanthropic angst which put the early punks in conflict with the entire world. By choosing targets we all resent and backing this up with a growly vocal scream, we fully buy into this attitude, making the upcoming bait and switch all the more jarring. Suddenly, these experimental, angular post punk sounds appear and bring with them a cold defensiveness which flies in the face of our flippant defiance. Until we understand this soft underbelly, we remain rudderless, destined to destroy more than we create.
