MISTRESS OF MISFORTUNE by Miiraposa
For fans of Drive45, Roxy Radclyffe, Death Grips, the pandemic hyperpop era, and choosing to live loudly in the face of state-sanctioned violent repression, MISTRESS OF MISFORTUNE by Miiraposa harnesses digital age schizophrenia to lampoon all exertions of power in our midst. The entirety of hard rock history has roles to play across this album, with prominent guitar riffs borrowed from blues rock, sludge metal, garage punk, and everything in between, serving as the primary counterpoint against the album’s predominant nature of experimental electronica. A resulting montage effect mirrors our experience of media in the era of the algorithmic feed, an aesthetically connected string of inputs painting a mosaic of pure global chaos. Lyrics taunt the fascist hiding within us all, asking us to look critically at state-sanctioned violence and assemble a principled reaction to some of the most disordered symptoms of mass psychosis that this country has ever seen. However, by protesting loudly through the vibrancy of noisy, experimental art, we take back spiritual autonomy even as we find our bodies hunted in the streets.
