McCartney, It’ll Be OK by UNIVERSITY
When someone in our life discards us, we immediately turn inwards, entering into some of the deepest states of depression imaginable. British emo noise rockers UNIVERSITY travel this dark road on McCartney, It’ll Be OK, writhing in the agony of utmost self-loathing through screamed vocals, distorted guitars, and frenzied riffs. Though this depression presents outwardly as a lethargic, mopey existence, the interior experience more closely resembles a panicked escape from a five-alarm fire. Angular guitars and explosive drums represent the furious analysis of every memory from this relationship, searching for the moment when disaster struck. Ultimately, this explosion of self-directed energy provides nothing of value; self-hatred begets self-hatred until all executive function abruptly and detrimentally halts. By expelling this inner demon through the catharsis of passionate noise, UNIVERSITY finally turns back to reality, abandoning this investigation of the past and charting a course forward for a more loving, meaningful, complete future, one unthinkable only a short time ago but now inevitable nonetheless.
