Lambspring by Lulamoon
For fans of MF DOOM, JPEGMAFIA, Backxwash, jazz rap, and laughing in the face of a world out to destroy you, Lambspring by Lulamoon uses a progressive boom bap hip hop sound to show us a view of politics from the perspective of someone whose identity remains a bargaining chip of the culture war. At times on this record, the intersecting struggles of blackness and transness in the United States maintain an absurd, almost Dadaist relationship to the everyday crisis of material poverty, with news stories appearing in the forms of abstract, grotesque memes as all attention moves to the prevention of personal financial collapse. At others, however, the immutable aspects of the speaker’s self puts them in immediate danger, forcing a direct confrontation with the most powerful imperial system ever devised as politicians of all tribes reduce their humanity to something exchangeable for electoral gain. Meanwhile, Lulamoon lives on, radiating a sharp wit and a spiritual flame which faces off against the machine with all the sacred power of human life.
