For fans of Geordie Greep, Decapitation in the Food Court, Cisnienie, the current wave of unhinged noise rock, and that gut feeling that something has gone horribly wrong, Going to Hell by Godzilla Nether Portal grasps desperately for meaning in a sea of suffering with its snarled hands of symphonic post hardcore. Between segments of haunting baritone vocals, vast swaths of each song belong to a violent wrestling match between fuzzy guitars, soaring saxophones, and bass countermelodies. Each of these segments intensify the core emotional anguish, that youthful desire to find meaning in our earthly pain as life continuously laughs in our face for even daring to ask. Such a dramatically slammed door whips these songs into a driving frenzy, the drum kit taking the reins to funnel us into a desperate clawing at the nothingness at the core of our torment. Our fruitless search leads us into a sort of depressive psychosis, projecting outwardly to the world as insanity as we unearth the random cosmic cruelty which we’re expected to brush off as fate.
