God Is Written All Over Your Walls by Cult Friends

God Is Written All Over Your Walls by Cult Friends

For fans of Ethel Cain, Weyes Blood, Masma Dream World, slowcore, and the spillover of mass cultural mistrust into personal relationships, God Is Written All Over Your Walls by Cult Friends begs for romantic loyalty in its dark, expansive take on the signer-songwriter genre. Haunting vocals drown in reverb, their call for help met only with the overwhelming enormity of the acoustic space. Accompaniment from guitars, synths, field recordings, and other minimal touches serve to provide some sort of companionship, but overall the aching loneliness of our protagonist radiates out from every moment on the record. Adequately living up to the Cult Friends name, our speaker begs for complete personal surrender from a partner, seemingly having been burned so seriously in the past as to find comfort in nothing less than absolute dedication. Perhaps as a result of these demands, these vocals remain trapped alone in this suffocatingly large, frighteningly dark space, a tragedy as old as time yet seemingly only gaining cultural velocity.
