Eyes of Yesterday by African-American Sound Recordings

For fans of LA Timpa, Ulla, Tim Hecker, old school ambient music, and the liminal space hidden within every relationship, Eyes of Yesterday by African-American Sound Recordings uses a distant lo-fi synth sound to explore the integrations constantly present within ourselves and between ourselves and others.  Past and future, body and soul, presentation and being all interact in a violent, life-defining dance, their opposition causing some of the core struggles which we will never fully overcome. However, these battlefields leave just a sliver of conspicuously empty space in between, those parts of ourselves lying in wait for employment into one of these existential conflicts, largely forgotten until the front lines move once again. This album provides the soundtrack for this no-man’s-land, a dull static hum in the background preventing any concise harmony by constantly reminding us of the war raging on just beyond the horizon. The more we search for these sounds, the more we also find them in the tension of romantic love, the eerie calm before the calamitous integration of two irreconcilable souls.
