El Bienestar del Espíritu by Pirámides
For fans of TaikuhJikang, Spiritualized, Stereolab, krautrock, and a universal spirit of consciousness which underlies all traditional cultures, El Bienestar del Espíritu by Pirámides metabolizes diverse influences into a psychedelic trance without fully rejecting some core rock aesthetics. Dense auxiliary percussion adds polyrhythms to the core kit’s steady krautrock style, a compromise which allows even the sparsest moments of this record to feel absolutely teeming with life. Noisy, jazzy experiments fill out the upper frequencies, spinning in and out of sync with hypnotic riffs that help tether the record back into a space we might find more approachable. That accessibility really takes hold through some surprisingly conventional vocals, which when alternated with traditional vernacular vocals lend this entire electrified and amplified machine an air of earthy humanity. With one foot in modern comfort and the other in the deep well of traditional wisdom, we meet that innermost part of ourselves which has seen many millennia before postmodernity and will persist to see the many millennia after its demise.
