Cool Leather by JB Glazer
How do you know when you’re at the top? When all of your wildest dreams have come true, when you want for nothing, when you have fulfilled all your potential? The experimental, noisy ambient sounds of Cool Leather by JB Glazer grapple with this concept of a personal peak, using its pensive, suspenseful sound to paint this pinnacle as more of a razor’s edge than a safe space. Unresolved, looping guitar and piano melodies indicate a sort of stagnation and stillness, but a chaotic cacophony of digital noise, explosive percussion, and disorienting vocals signal to a world in flux all around us even as we momentarily stand still. The entire sonic environment feels dreamlike, ethereal, unavailable, insinuating that, even if we could reach the apex of life, we probably wouldn’t even realize we were there. However, should this monumental achievement ever somehow fall into our grasp, the crushing weight of guilt that comes with a life of comfort in a world of suffering would immediately tear us from our joyous reprieve, forcing us face-to-face with the noise once again.
