Are we friends yet? by 1000 Rabbits

For fans of Editrix, Black Country, New Road, Björk, baroque pop, and the ambiguity of brand new acquaintances, Are we friends yet? by 1000 Rabbits subtly vents scalding emotional anguish through a veneer of tightly orchestrated, aesthetically beautiful neoclassical alternative rock. Gentle, shimmery instrumental and vocal tones greet us as we arrive at this record, building familiar melodic motifs which unfold dramatically as each track presses on. The gradual addition of dissonant harmonies and aesthetic aggression unlocks the power hidden away in these sing-song melodies, following the spin of the lyrics towards intense frustration as we feel ourselves densely intertwined with the unfolding narrative. We present that initial face of composure and convention, but underneath this more enigmatic, individual, uncomfortable core begs for the addressing of its own needs out in the world, a cry for recognition which oftentimes falls short of outward expression. Instead, we live in the intermediate space of this record, always one slip away from letting everything out as we continue to smile and nod along with the social niceties.
